Executive director, access accelerated
Herb Riband is focused on developing human-centric approaches to improving access to quality healthcare (including medicines and vaccines), new health financing models, and pragmatic policies to improve outcomes for people living with (or at risk of developing) noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) like cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer as well as mental health conditions. In this regard, serves as Executive Director of Access Accelerated, a collective of pharmaceutical companies working to help low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) combat NCDs through a unique technical partnership with the World Bank. In 2024, in collaboration with Results for Development (R4D), the partners launched the Financing Accelerator Network for NCDs (FAN) to help LMICs design and implement sustainable, locally led health financing solutions to improve peoples’ access to quality products and services for NCDs. He also works as Sr. Advisor, Global Health, Access and Financing to The International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA), based in Geneva, which represents the innovative pharmaceutical industry at the international level and in official relations with the United Nations. With 38 years of international experience, Herb has held senior leadership roles at Amgen and Medtronic where he led initiatives in innovative healthcare delivery, market access, policy, government affairs, and strategic partnership.
